How We Match Each Horse to Each Rider

The most special part of riding with us at Central Coast Trailrides is our incredible herd of horses. With over 40 working horses, we know each one’s personality, quirks, and history like the back of our hands. Once they are with us, they are family, so we truly get to care for and know all the “ins and outs” of each unique horse over many years. We especially take pride in matching each rider with the right horse to ensure a safe, comfortable, and unforgettable trail ride on the Central Coast.

Before every ride, we take a few key facts into consideration. We’ll look at your riding experience, comfort level, and the ride you are looking to book. Nervous or confident—kiddos to grandparents, we have the horse for you. For first time riders, we often pair guests with calm and patient horses. Randy, our attention loving Appaloosa, or Cinnamon, who has spent years safely carrying beginners or kids on the trail, are wonderful teachers. Gentle giants like Butler, Tahoe and Xena are also favorites for those needing extra confidence.

Riders who may have a bit more riding experience or a stronger personality may get paired with horses who have a more forward pace. Tonka, Cortez, or Durango bring a little more energy, while still being reliable and trustworthy members of the herd. Every horse has their own personality… no matter if you’re matched with ‘lil Pecos our mighty mustang, or handsome half-draft horses like Goliath , Bruno,and Cash who like to steal the spotlight.

Every member of our herd has been carefully selected, trained, and loved by our team, so we know who’ll be the good  match for you. We take the time to consider each rider and their partner at CCT.
